Nearly back from the brink

10.3 run by Kevin at Garmin Connect - Details

Sorry lads that 8am start was way to early for me on a Saturday morning but sounds like you were probably better off without me.

So first long run today after a big break. IT band felt pretty good upto 5 miles where I had to stop and do some stretches. This evening I can really feel it though and it feels like something is burning in hip so that's not good but I'm ignoring it and it will go away. Conditions were great today - warmish, slight cool breeze and overcast. The thing I'm most proud of today was my steady pace. I have found that this is pace I run at when I do LSR's and I don't seem to be able to change so I'm not going to try. Unfortunately the battery in the Garmin ran out at 7 miles so the rest is the 10.3 is a estimation from Google maps.

I'll add in my race Report here... and keep it short; Training before this event was limited, my fricken achilles only setled down about a week before hand, but I had a good weeks training in the build up and wanted a crack at getting close to my PB. I had a target of 32 minutes or less.

The first mile didn't feel particularly fast, but my new GPS watch read Five twenty something :O Way too fast! Little was I to know that I hadn't done a mile really though! I slowed for the next mile and that was six thirty something :O Way too Slow! So I settled at a pace in the middle of both miles for the rest of the race. I had consistently moved past people up until mile 3 and finally found myself in a group equally paced, all of whom had watches singing varies beepy tunes.

I felt strong coming into the last mile and attacked any and all hills. The aul heart rate must have been hitting max but I was comfortable enough in a fast finish. Time was Thirty one Something.... which I'm happy with even with the short measure.... and most importantly, the achilles were only a little sore.

So in conclusion- Farewell Asics Kayanos, I hated you! But will still use you... in the rain and the mud :P

Achilles, Glasses and zoom Vomero.

I've given the Asics Kayano's a fair aul trial and don't think they're for me. An expensive trial, but a necessary one all the same. I'm still feeling something on the achilles, though not as much pain as the months before. Whenever I put on my old vomeros I feel like I'm walking on clouds, and they've done a few thousand miles! so...

I'm going back to my Vomeros, from wiggle;

Only in red... but meh!

So while I'm shopping in wiggle, I think of my 5 year old scratched and somewhat smelly blue runnning Oakleys.... they've begun to annoy me with steaming up and what not. So, (and Al, I think you were looking at running shades too?) I'm also throwing these in the basket.

They come with a selection of lens depending on the weather. I like to run with shades on anyway so the clear ones will be good for the late evening runs and as they're really cycling shades, I'll get the use out of them on the bike too. Sorted. (getting the white frames)

Adidas 5 Mile

Did everybody get their number and chip. I was away for the weekend so wasn't able to get to Blanchardstown. Didn't realise it had to be picked up on specific dates. Does anyone know if you can pick it up on the day of the race?

Well managed to finish which a I'm delighted with. The first half of the race went quite well, hit the half way on 45.17 which was bang on what i wanted to do. When i hit the beach for the second time the wind was so feckin strong. There was a sand blizzard for 4 km and all the way back there was a 80 km/h wind blowing head on . Some of the time i felt like i wasn't even running. Check out my last mile, that has to be a record!!!!!!
